So, what are the options and what is involved?

Broken iPhone screens are reasonably common on both the iPhone 2G and the iPhone 3G and there are a range of repairers and DIY options available.

Take it to Apple

Taking/Sending it to Apple to be repaired will cost $369 and result in a "refurbished" iPhone coming back, rather than the phone you gave to them in the first place. From all accounts their in warranty service is fantastic, especially if you take your iPhone to an Apple store, however some people are finding that their non warranty services are not up to the same standard.

Repair Services such as FiXPOD

There are also a range of iPhone repairers, doctors and medics to choose from. At FiXPOD, we are doing everything we can to be the best, including offering the longest warranties, the fastest turnaround times (often same day if you send it in, or while you wait if you bring it to our office in Paddington, Sydney), a tax invoice from a reputable business, superior customer service and an attention to detail and technical proficiency resulting in the highest care for your iPhone while it is being repaired.

Do It Yourself

There is also the DIY option. Some people have good success repairing their broken iPhone screen themselves, however some technical expertise and specialised equipment is required to ensure no damage is caused to your iPhone. We guarantee you will not be able to tell the difference between our repair and a brand new phone. This includes no damage to the case or the rubber gasket seal around the glass, no dust whatsoever in the screen assembly, no fingerprints or cleaning marks, no traces of glue or solvents, perfect alignment with the top of the metal bezel and we only use the highest quality genuine Apple parts for the repair.

As well, we recommend people to be weary of some of the cheap parts on offer - some really are rubbish and just don't fit correctly at all.

What is actually involved?

Smartly, Apple designed the iPhone 3G with the LCD separate to the touch screen / digitiser / front glass assembly. This means that if the front glass is broken or the touch screen stops responding, only this component needs to be replaced, without needing to replace the LCD. It is still an intricate repair with the glass glued onto a frame, and difficult to get perfect unless you have experience and the right tools.

The iPhone 2G (with the silver caseback) uses an integrated LCD, touch screen digitiser and glass assembly. This is no problem as we have the parts in stock, however the genuine parts are reasonably expensive.
